Statewide Coalition Focused on Childhood Health Commends Whitmer Administration for Preparedness Amid COVID-19 Crisis

Healthy Kids Healthy Michigan (HKHM), a coalition focused on childhood health in Michigan, commends Governor Gretchen Whitmer and her administration for taking necessary actions and precautions to keep Michigan’s children safe and healthy.

The Whitmer Administration announced a decision late Thursday night to close all K-12 school buildings, public, private, and boarding, starting Monday, March 16 through April 5, 2020 in order to slow the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Michigan. School buildings are scheduled to reopen on Monday, April 6. “Closing schools for an extended amount of time is a difficult decision to make, but by doing so, it ensures our kids have a greater ability to stay healthy and protected as the Coronavirus continues to spread throughout Michigan”, said Andrew Schepers, HKHM Coalition Chair.

“The Administration’s commitment to ensuring children have the ability to receive meals while schools are closed is essential for families. Access to healthy meals will also help our kids to stay healthy during this public health emergency”, Sean Sorenson, Coalition Vice-Chair stated.

Healthy Kids Healthy Michigan stands ready to work to ensure that our kids and families stay safe during this time. For more information on mitigation strategies and healthy food access during the COVID-19 pandemic, please follow the links below:
